Are you passionate about making a difference to the lives of young autistic people? This special needs college are seeking dedicated individuals to join their team as Special Needs Teaching Assistant!

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you'll play a crucial role in providing academic assistance and community support on a 1:1 basis for autistic young people aged 16-25.

We are currently recruiting a dedicated and ambitious individual for an exciting new Teaching Assistant role on a full-time, permanent basis.

Not only would this exciting role lead you on a very fulfilling journey to uplift and support young autistic individuals but this college would also provide you with generous annual leave, a pension scheme and also allow you to loan a bike to better suit your transport to and from work. Alongside occupational health services, eye test vouchers and travel season tickets.

This college is only a 10 minute walk away from the nearest station making transport to and from work very convenient.

Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for safeguarding learners at all times
  • Know, implement and actively contribute to the development of risk assessments and plans (can be related to learning, medical care, positive behaviour support) and report concerns when necessary
  • Value and use differences and diversities in learning support
  • Train in and consistently apply Positive Behaviour Support strategies / handling techniques
  • Actively engage in a Total Communication Approach across learners (Verbal, visual, signing, digital augmentative, Picture exchange methods, objects of reference etc).

Person specification:

  • Interest in, and/or knowledge of, autism
  • Good appreciation of, and a basic knowledge of, health and safety, data protection principles and equal opportunities
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal (in English)
  • To have the physical and emotional resilience to work with autistic children/YP who may have behaviours that challenge
