Overview: A primary school in Tooting is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Years Teaching Assistant for a full-time position starting in September 2024. The ideal candidate will hold a Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education, though candidates with significant experience and passion for early childhood development are also encouraged to apply.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Learning Activities: Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate learning activities for early years students.
  • Individual Support: Provide one-on-one support to children, helping them to reach their individual learning goals and development milestones.
  • Classroom Preparation: Help set up and maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment, preparing resources and materials for lessons.
  • Behaviour Management: Support the maintenance of positive behaviour in the classroom, reinforcing school policies and encouraging good behaviour.
  • Record Keeping: Assist in observing and recording children's progress, contributing to the assessment and planning of individualised learning activities.
  • Parental Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents and carers, providing updates on children's progress and development.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure the safety and welfare of the children, adhering to school policies and procedures, including safeguarding practices.
  • Collaborative Work: Work closely with the teaching team and other staff members to support a cohesive and collaborative approach to early years education.
  • Play-Based Learning: Engage children in play-based learning activities, fostering a love of learning and exploration in a fun and supportive environment.

Requirements:

  • Qualification: Ideally, a Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education or a related field. Candidates without this qualification but with relevant experience are also welcome.
  • Experience: Previous experience working in an early years setting, either in a school or nursery environment, is preferred.
  • Passion for Early Childhood: A genuine interest in supporting the educational and developmental needs of young children.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with children, staff, and parents.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Organisational Skills: Strong organisational skills to manage classroom resources and support the teacher in planning and preparation.
  • Patience and Empathy: A caring and patient approach to working with young children, understanding their individual needs and development stages.
  • Safeguarding: A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, with knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
