About the SEN Unit:

The SEN Unit is a dedicated space within the school designed to provide tailored support for children with complex learning needs, including autism (ASD), speech and language difficulties, and sensory challenges. Key Responsibilities as an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • 1:1 and Group Support: Provide targeted support for pupils as an SEN Teaching Assistant in the SEN Unit, adapting learning materials and strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Encourage Development: Promote positive behaviour, social skills, and independence through engaging activities.
  • Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and SENCO to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Foster Inclusion: Help pupils transition smoothly between the SEN Unit and the wider school environment as an SEN Teaching Assistant.
  • Personal Care Support: Assist with personal care routines as needed, ensuring dignity and comfort at all times.

What We're Looking For in an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience in SEN: Prior experience working with children with additional needs, particularly in an SEN Unit or similar setting.
  • Patience and Empathy: A calm and understanding approach to supporting children with diverse challenges.
  • Team Player: Someone who can work collaboratively with staff and parents to create a cohesive support plan.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to respond to the changing needs of pupils in a dynamic environment.
