What You'll Be Doing as an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Encourage Communication: Use specialised tools such as PECS or Makaton (if trained) to support pupils in expressing themselves.
  • Foster Development: Help students build confidence, independence, and social skills through structured learning and play.
  • Assist with Sensory Needs: Provide support for sensory regulation and emotional management in line with each child's needs.
  • Personal Care Support: Provide personal care where required, ensuring a respectful and nurturing approach.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience with SEN: Previous experience working with children with ASD and complex needs, preferably in a school setting.
  • Patience and Resilience: A calm and understanding approach to meeting pupils' unique challenges.
  • Knowledge of SEN Strategies: Familiarity with techniques like sensory activities, visual aids, or structured learning approaches.
  • Strong Teamwork Skills: Ability to collaborate with teachers, support staff, and parents to create cohesive, effective learning plans.
  • Adaptability: A flexible mindset to meet the changing needs of pupils and the unit.
