A SEN teacher is needed for a special educational needs (SEN) school in North London for secondary school students aged 11-19.

As a SEN teacher, you will be working with KS3 students with severe learning difficulties (SLD) working at pre-KS1 level. Some students may be non-verbal and/or have visual/hearing impairments.

This school is easily accessible from around London, with great transport links.

Willingness to do personal care is preferred.

Your responsibilities as a SEN teacher may include:

  • Lesson planning and delivery for students with a range of learning difficulties and complex needs. This may include alternative teaching methods, such as Lego therapy and intensive interaction sessions.
  • Ability to use communication devices to successfully communicate with students who are non-verbal or have visual or hearing impairments.
  • Helping students to develop confidence and independence.
  • Implementing behaviour management techniques, which may include physical restraints, to maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Working with specialist teaching services, medical staff, counsellors, and psychologists
  • Being aware of safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

To be a SEN teacher, you will need:

  • The right to work in the UK.
  • Early Career Teacher (ECT) with relevant experience will be considered.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or overseas trained teacher awaiting QTS.
  • A clear and up-to-date DBS
  • Experience working with young people with ASD.
  • A patient, caring attitude who can remain calm and supportive under pressure.
