ABOUT THE BSL TEACHING ASSISTANT POST:

The school are seeking a suitably experienced qualified, enthusiastic and motivated Teaching Assistant who has BSL certification and willing to work within a good secondary school, who has a genuine desire to make a difference to the lives of young people.

Working under the direction of the Class Teachers to enable access to learning for pupils, and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.

This will include working with teachers to support the learning, educational progress and inclusion of pupil(s) with a hearing impairment, with the aim of narrowing any attainment gap they have with their hearing peers on entry to school.

Give assistance to students with a hearing impairment so that they can access the curriculum, participate in learning, experience a sense of achievement and develop independence in learning and other aspects of school life.

THE SUCCESSFUL BSL TEACHING ASSISTANT WILL HAVE:

  • BSL certification, and ideally experinece working within a secondary school.
  • The ability and willingness to understand the needs of students from different social backgrounds, sensory impairments and special educational needs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication on top of their BSL communication.
  • The ability to form and maintain appropriate professional relationships and boundaries with young people and adults.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • The ability to work constructively as part of a team
  • Good ICT skills to support learning.
  • The ability and willingness to learn new skills. With a commitment to personal career development.
  • The desire to gain experience working in a school, with a view to possibly move into teaching in the future
